STRETCHFENCE TAXI RELIEF STAND CONCEPT
New York, NY
The STRETCHfence, by RMA and sister company TRUCK Product Architecture, reimagined the typical New York Park fence as a piece of durable, inexpensive street furniture. With its taxi-yellow finish, the STRETCHfence makes clear the location of the currently hard-to-identify city designated Taxi Relief Stands. Its benches and tables allow drivers to have a quick meal and stretch their legs without cramming into an overcrowded lunch counter or eating in the back seat of their cab. The project was designed for the 2005 Design Trust for Public Space's Designing the Taxi: Rethinking New York City's Moveable Public Space conference and exhibition; it was also shown at the Design Trust's 2007 Taxi 07 exhibition at the Jacob Javits Center.
